Conference House Park
Is a great destination for both nature and history buffs.
The Conference House, a grand stone manor built in 1680, is named for the Revolutionary
War peace conference that was held here on Sept 11, 1776, between the Americas and the
Britsh. Despite their negotiations to end the fighting, no agreement was reached and the
Revolutionary War continued for another seven years.
Located at the southernmost piont of New York State, this 265-acre park with its maritime forest. grasslands, dunes and over3 miles of shoreline also includes three historic buildings
that trace the history of Staten Island over the course of there centuries. The H.H. Biddle,
ward-Leven, and Rutan-Becket. Houses all tell of a New York and an America of the past.
Today, Conference House Park combines the best of everything-a preservation of Staten Islands's rich history, historical significance, and natural treasures all within easy reach.
